Introducing WooThemes: A New Contender in the Growing Premium Theme Market
X amount of years after the boom of "premium Wordpress themes" (that is, Wordpress themes professionally developed and sold to the public), Wordpress users have come across everything from Revolution to Press75. Themes have typically gone for $70-90 a piece, for a one-time use. Those days are soon ending.
A relatively new theme club, WooThemes, is gaining constant popularity since its inception in July of 2008. With an inviting and somewhat cartoonish facade, the premium Wordpress development company definies the spirit of Web 2.0 graphic design with its Wordpress themes, which are graphic design templates that can be inserted into a theme directory of a Wordpress.org installation, updating the blog or site's appearance.
WooThemes' Pricing Structure
While most good things are not free (nor should they be), WooThemes was conceptualized in the hopes of making things a little easier on Wordpressers. Its unique pricing structure revolutionized the way other premium WP theme designers priced their own themes: a one-time, limited time membership gives you the opportunity to download any (or all) themes on the website. Membership can be cancelled at any time, and re-instated at any time.
Its most unique change, expressed to somewhat "define" their fair pricing, is the "Permanent 2-for-1" theme deal. Buy one theme, and get any 2nd theme of your choice for free. We should expect this to make other premium theme builders to either start re-evaluating their own pricing structures, or simply get left behind; especially since WooThemes promises at least one new theme release every single month.
Developers Need Not Be Left Behind
Borrowing from other premium Wordpress theme clubs, WooThemes also has its own version of the 'developer package,' an offer where anyone can purchase a licence to use any or all of their themes an unlimited number of times, for-profit. This practice is by no means new to the industry, as it has been a popular and profitable option for web design freelancers, of whom can simply use these pre-made templates and mass produce them for their freelance clients at their full hourly rate.
WooThemes offers its own one-time rate for Wordpress theme developers and freelancers to download all themes, and mass-produce them to their heart's content. With the ever growing popularity of using Wordpress as a CMS (content management system) -- that is, a substitute for bigger fish like Joomla and Drupal -- expect the developer theme package market to continue to grow amongst the Wordpress community in the coming years.
